ABOUT THE LOWER SCHOOL

The Lower School at Mount St Mary's College is made up of Upper Elements (Yr7) and Figures (Yr8).  Many of our new entrants come from Barlborough Hall School and so have had the opportunity to become familiar with the Mount, its layout and many of the staff who will be teaching them.  Children who come to us from schools other than BHS are made to feel welcome very quickly and, because of the importance given to the values of a caring and friendly environment, soon settle into the pattern of life at the Mount.  An 'Induction Day' is held each year in the summer term before the new entry joins in September.

Mount St Mary's has a three-form entry at age 11, three forms in Upper Elements (Yr 7) and three forms in Figures (Yr 8), each consisting of no more than 20 pupils.  Each tutor group has its own tutor who is the main contact for each of the pupils in that group.

Each tutor group has a class base where most of that form's lessons are taught. The classroom contains personal lockers for books and other items. Changing rooms also provide lockers for the storage of games kit.
