The Middle School at Mount St Mary's is made up of Rudiments (Y9),
Grammar (Y10) and Syntax (Y11). The majority of pupils entering
Middle School will have progressed from the Lower School. However,
we do have a number of pupils who come to us from other schools,
some of them from overseas. They are made to feel very welcome and
because of the importance given to the values of a caring and friendly
environment, soon settle into the pattern of life at The Mount.
At present the Middle School is divided into nine tutor groups,
three in Rudiments, three in Grammar and three in Syntax. Each tutor
group or form has its own tutor who is the main contact for each
of the pupils in that group. The form tutor is responsible for the
registration of pupils in the morning and lunchtime.
Each tutor group or form has its own form room where most of that
form's lessons will be taught. There is a locker for books and other
personal possessions.
When pupils need to get changed for P.E., Games and other activities,
boarders use their own rooms. Every day pupil has a locker in the
changing room where kit can be stored and left throughout the day.
In Middle School there are two boarding houses one for the girls
and one for the boys. The House staff are assisted by other resident
boarding staff. All the boarding house staff create an extended
family atmosphere in which the pupils can feel that they are 'at
home' whilst accepting that they live in a boarding community. In
each boarding area there is a common room in which there is a TV
and video.
