1.       What makes Mount St Mary’s different from other schools?
Mount St Mary’s College Jesuit ethos promotes a strong community spirit and supportive environment which allows each individual child to develop his or her special talents whether academically, musically, physically, emotionally and spiritually. 2.       What clubs and extra-curricular activities are on offer for students, even if they don’t board?

3.       What are the class sizes per year group?
We have approximately 60 per year group for years 7, 8 and 9 with a maximum of 66.  Maximum of 80 for years 10 and 11. In the sixth form class sizes are organised per subject as opposed to year group.

 

4.       How much direct contact will we, as parents, have with teachers?
Parents receive two school reports a year for their child and there is one parents evening a year too. If you wish to discuss academic matters with a teacher, our teachers are always available for parents to contact them.

 

5.       Do you have to be a Catholic to attend Mount St Mary’s?
No. We welcome pupils of all denominations in a truly ecumenical environment.

 

6.       What is the difference between a scholarship and bursary?
Scholarships are based on the ability of the pupil. Bursaries are provided for parents who need financial support with the fees. Parents who apply for a bursary are means tested.
 
7.       Do children have to wear a uniform in the sixth form?
No. Sixth form pupils wear a dark coloured smart suit instead.
 
8.       Do children have to attend Saturday school?
No, however we do encourage children to play an active part of school activities to give them the opportunity to experience everything the school has to offer.

 

9.       Who do I contact if my child is ill, going to be late or will be absent?

10.   What are the school hours?
Registration is 8.35am every morning and lessons finish at 4.30pm.

 

11.   Is the school affected in any way during heavy snow and inclement weather?
During the snow of January / February 2010, the school remained open and our buses continued to run. We make every effort to maintain the normal school day during bad weather. Our website will provide twice-daily updates if the weather becomes problematic and the school transport office can be contacted on 01246 437126. All bus drivers have mobile phones for use by parents and parents who take advantage of the bus service are given this number at the start of the school year.
