Admissions to Mount St Mary's College are dealt with by Mrs Sarah Birks, the Admissions Secretary. She will help you with all aspects of your application to join the school and can answer all your questions and queries about life at the Mount, ranging from fees to uniform. Mrs Birks can be contacted on 01246 432872 or email
The first step for most interested parents is to visit the school. We warmly invite you to visit us on any school day by appointment. During your visit you will have the opportunity to tour the school, meeting staff and pupils. If you have specific questions Mrs Birks will arrange for you to meet the relevant staff. You can also arrange to meet the Headmaster, Mr McKell, for a conversation about your child. Alternatively, our open evenings and open days give families the chance for an informal look around the school. Prospective pupils are invited to spend a taster day at the school, which we try to organise to cater for their specific interests.
The next step in the Admissions process is to provide us with a copy of your child's latest school report and a reference from your child's current school. You will then need to fill in the registration form and return this to the Admissions Office with the registration fee (£50 for UK students, £200 for overseas students).
All registered pupils hoping to join Upper Elementsmjust sit an entrance test (transfer test for Barlborough Hall School pupils) in late January for entry to the school that September. We are proudly non-academically selective, and the main purpose of the exam is to assess ability and help with setting. The top performing candidates will be invited back to site a scholarship exam the following Saturday. Applicants for other year groups are assessed using reports and references from their current school. Overseas applicants sit an English test to assess their ability. If you miss the date for the entrance exam, tests are arranged on an individual basis. There is a slightly different procedure for pupils from Preparatory Schools who are sitting Common Entrance; Mrs Birks is happy to advise you about this.
