Individuals
are not lost. Our size and commitment to caring means
that we have a happy and fulfilled community.
To
seek to do more (magis) and to serve others follows from a
knowledge that we are known and loved by God.
PASTORAL
CARE AT MOUNT ST MARY'S.
Mount St Mary's College is proud of the pastoral care for its
pupils. Because teaching and tutor groups are small the staff with
pastoral responsibilities are able to get to know their pupils very
well and give them the attention they need.
Upper,
Middle and Lower School
The school is divided into three sections, the Upper
school, the Middle school
and the Lower school, each with
its own Head of school. The Head of each section has responsibility
for a team of tutors in that section and has responsibility in general
for the academic progress and pastoral well being of all pupils, boarding
and day.
Tutors
Each pupil belongs to a small tutor group or form. The form tutor
has immediate overall responsibility for academic progress and the
pastoral well being of each student. There is an amount of tutor time
each week, in which tutors can monitor progress and deal with any
problems that might arise. The form tutor is also the first point
of contact for parents. There is also one lesson per week in which
the school's personal, social and health education programme takes
place, led by the form tutors. Heads of School meet with all their
form tutors each week, in order to discuss areas of common concern
and the Heads of School in turn meet with the Deputy Headmaster and
Headmaster on a weekly basis.
Facilities
Every pupil in the Lower and Middle schools has a form room in which
there is a locker for books and other personal possessions and there
are Lower, Middle, Syntax (Yr11) and Upper School Common Rooms where day and boarding
pupils can mix. In addition there are separate changing facilities,
and lockers are provided for sportswear.
The
Chaplaincy
The school has a lay chaplain who works in conjunction with our resident Jesuit priest. The Chaplain, who is resident, is available to all members
of the school community who may wish to see him.
The
School Counsellor
Certain members of staff are designated Counsellors whom pupils may
approach. In certain circumstances the school arranges for an external
counsellor to visit.
