TEACHING FACILITIES

Over recent years the College has continued to benefit from considerable investment producing some of the finest teaching facilities and boarding accommodation available. This has included boarding accommodation with en-suite facilities, sports centre, a refurbished Theatre, ICT centre, new Music school, floodlights on the all-weather surface and a new Resources Centre, including library with video and CD Rom resources and networked computers with internet access. Two phases of an ambitious Sports complex have also been completed, so that we now have a Grade 1 Athletics facility and a new pavilion, with plans for a third phase including a Sports Hall and Arts Centre.

Sixth Form Centre

The Sixth Form Centre is the focus of the Upper School. Pupils meet their tutors twice a day in the Centre to register and Sixth Form assemblies are also held there. The Centre provides leisure facilities, a kitchen area and the Head of Sixth Form's office. The Sixth Form Centre provides a meeting area for all pupils in Poetry (Yr12) and Rhetoric (Yr13).

The Library

The Library aims to support and enhance the educational aims, policies and practices of the College through the Librarian, especially as these relate to independent learning.  Towards this end, the Librarian is responsible for relating the Library's hybrid collection to the current and anticipated requirements, both academic and recreational, of teachers and scholars.

The Librarian is ably assisted by a team of pupil Librarians who share

responsibility for running this busy Library

ICT

As a result of significant ICT investment we now boast two fully networked ICT suites equipped with modern PCs, flat screen monitors, optical mice, cameras, scanners and colour laser printing facilities. The two ICT suits are complemented by another full ICT/Audio suite in Modern Languages and other IT facilities for students throughout the school in departments as diverse as Science, Music, D&T and the Learning Resources Area. An eclectic range of constantly updated software is available across the school network to aid students in their research and studies. Plans are in progress for IT infrastructure developments that include additional PCs and servers, more online storage, higher speed Internet connections and enhanced communications facilities that will ensure we remain at the forefront of IT developments in the coming years.

Music School

The Music School was completed in October 2000 and provides an exceptional facility, inclusive of a classroom, six practice rooms and recital hall. The recital hall is a resource that is also available for rehearsals and small drama presentations.

Modern Languages Multi-media centre

The College has installed the Sanarco 300 Language Laboratory in the Modern Languages Department.

This powerful learning resource has revolutionised language learning at Mount St Mary's College.  It allows for more student-centred learning, easier differentiation and fascinating assignments using a variety of source material such as satellite TV, DVD, audio and websites.  The system comprises 22 state-of-the-art networked PCs and an interactive whiteboard.  The package includes a site licence which will allow all students to export the relevant software to their laptops or home computers allowing them to work on language lab material at home.
